Someone put me out of my misery. Why is there a gap at the bottom of the right hand column of the start menu? I’m trying to set my installation of POSReady 2009 up the same as I had XP but no matter what I try I can’t get ‘Run’ to move down so that it’s to the right of ‘All Programs’.
I appreciate that it’s absurdly trivial but it’s bugging me. Things I’ve tried already without success: Complete reinstall of OS, removing items from left hand column, deselecting all items in the right hand column and reintroducing them one at a time. Thanks for the suggestion oldsh_t, but no, that’s not it. That allows you to display in the left hand column a certain number of your recently used programs and I’ve already set that to 0. What I normally have in that column is just 6 shortcuts, and even if I remove most of them the ‘problem’ still exists: Even if I remove most of the items from the right hand column I still get an empty space at the bottom.
It’s like there’s some kind of phantom shortcut link stuck in there taking up space. Is this the same with other people's POSReady 2009 installs? Well, considering the other issues I’m currently having with POSReady 2009 the gap at the bottom of the start menu is something I’d now be willing to live with. Hopefully someone on this forum can help me get those sorted if I find a way to describe what the matter is.
In spite of the official end of the free Windows 10 update offer on July 29, it seems any valid Windows 7/8.x retail product key still installs Windows 10 for now. Windows Embedded POSReady does not need to be activated. Once a product key has been entered in build-time, the image is fully activated. In the meantime- eatup – I’ve probably got the wrong end of the stick here and I’m an amateur when it comes to multi-booting but I believe I’ve got POSReady 2009 in a multi-boot set-up. I’ll describe my situation and maybe it can help you. I’ve got POSReady on a disc rather than a USB stick. I did the following: With the disc in the laptop I booted from the CD drive. It started the ‘Installation Environment’ and then asked for the product key. I created the number of partitions I needed on the hard drive (4) and told it to install POSReady 2009 on the first one.
After it had installed and I’d set up my programmes and drivers etc I formatted the other partitions using ‘Disk Management’. I then booted from the CD drive again and went through the same process but told it to install POSReady on the last partition. Now when I start my PC I get the choice of which version I want to boot into with the default 30-second countdown. I initially had Windows 7 as the second OS option but have temporarily overwritten it with the second POSReady. It’s my understanding that you need to have the earlier OS installed first.
So in my case POSReady installed before 7. I’m having problems with things not loading at start up. It’s one of those annoying intermittent problems.
Sometimes everything loads as expected, but then other times the Hotkey Utility and Power Meter don’t load. I’ll try to sort the power meter out first and that might point me in the right direction for fixing the Hotkey Utility. I’ve had XP Home installed on a Laptop and a Desktop for many years and it’s been absolutely rock solid on both of them, no problems at all. I used to do a fresh install of XP Home about every year so had made a checklist and had discs that included everything I need.
I use Double Driver to install all my drivers. I’ve now gone through the same installation process with POSReady and have got it set up as I had XP, except now I’ve got start up problems. I’ve also got POSReady installed on a second partition in dual boot set-up. It’s pretty much just a fresh install; all I’ve done is set up an administrator user account.
I’ve installed no drivers or other programmes and yet the power meter doesn’t load consistently in that either. Please could someone who’s installed POSReady 2009, and would expect the power meter to work, turn it on and see if it loads consistently at start-up? In Control Panel>Power Options>Advanced Tab – ‘Always show icon on the taskbar’ is ticked.
In Control Panel>Power Options>Power Meter – ‘Show details for each battery’ is ticked. In Taskbar Properties>Taskbar – ‘Hide inactive icons’ is unticked. What I don’t understand is why should this be happening when POSReady is meant to be XP Pro SP3 with some components removed and some added. Surely if there were some components missing that it needed then it wouldn’t load at all. Did XP Pro have this problem?
Have I just avoided it because I had Home edition? If it’s because there are drivers missing from POSReady that were in XP Pro, why does it sometimes load? Hello Folks, I registered new to this forum since I searched this OS quite a long time. Now that I have a DVD of it, I try to install the OS to a POS-system.
It's a Wincor Nixdorf Beetle /iPOS wich has no optical drive. So I won't be able to simply put the disc in. I tried to setup a flash drive with that companion- setup, which seemed to be ok (said 'Complete'). But when I connect this flash drive with my device, I get into Grub4Dos and not to WinPE, which should install WEPR2k9. I also tried to setup the flash drive with WinSetupToUSB (which sets the whole DVD to the flash drive) but my 4GB Flash Drive is too small for that.
I tried an 8GB but that wasn't recognized by my POS-device. Should I try another flash drive, or is something else wrong, when it boots to Grub4Dos instead of WinPE? OEM POSREADY 2009 - requires OEM version of the POS2009 + SLI 1.0 (OEM strings in the bios) + certificates to activate, and it all has to match (example acer can't use Dell certificates + key cuz they won't match bios SLI strings). Advantages use as long as its supported and doesn't require to connect to Microsoft for activation. Option #1 used by computer makers since they can use a single license for all the machines. VOL POSREADY 2009 - Used by enterprises or mid sized businesses, license skips activation and doesn't required the use of certificates. However a volume install media is required to use those keys.

This license is usually for one single pc and it requieres activation via online or by phone. License binds to the first equipment that is activated on and cannot be used on another one since it won't activate. The license i posted is unlimited you will be able to use as many time as you want in as many computer as desired, the key came from a POS retailer recovery CD.
